MARCH 2013

Driftwood Hotel
Imagine your perfect holiday - a stylish, privately run Cornish Beach House Hotel, overlooking the stunning Gerrans Bay, near the pretty village of Portscatho, near St Mawes South Cornwall. Driftwood is like no other boutique hotel in Cornwall.

Driftwood Hotel
Driftwood has the friendly informal service, a Michelin star restaurant, and the efficiency you would expect. Where else can you walk down a wooded path, to your own beach and cove? Where else can you lie back on a steamer chair, with a glass of wine, and enjoy an unbroken sea view. Where else can you eat the best, locally sourced food, perhaps lobster caught that morning, or crab from “
Perched high above the sea with a panoramic view over the water, the setting is

Chris with Jay Rayner
Chris Eden is the Chef, a good friend of mine who has come along way since his days with me at the Lanesborough.
Driftwood was opened by Paul and Fiona Robinson 10 years ago. Neither were hoteliers but Fiona's skills as an interior designer and Paul's as a finance director, plus their hands-on approach and ease with guests, have created a highly successful, and delightful, Cornish hotel, which is stylish and seaside fresh but devoid of pretension

Millionaire beach Malibu
Exciting months ahead - LA
In April I will be joining another good friend also form the Lanesborough days in California, Malibu beach.
Karl was approached by a long standing client of the Lanesborough to become the President of Hospitality for a new venture that will consist of a wonderful Italian restaurant on Millionaires beach; it will be called Nikita Malibu with other Nikita's planned in other amazing cities.
Opening in the middle of May - so lots to do.

Rebecca Dibben

Rebecca Dibben – Our very first Gold Scholar!

Rebecca Dibben, a 22 year old Restaurant Supervisor at Deseo Mediterranean Restaurant, Gleneagles Hotel, has won the inaugural Gold Service Scholarship.

Rebecca beat five other finalists who competed at a special lunch   service held at London’s Westminster Kingsway College on Monday 11th February 2013.

The awards ceremony, hosted generously by Claridge’s, was universally applauded by everyone who attended.

Suspense
There was a special energy in the room as the suspense built up to the announcement of the winner.
Alastair Storey, of Baxter Storey, kicked off the proceedings followed by Chairman of the Judges Edward Griffiths who praised all the finalists and regional finalists who took part.

The winning scholar’s year will start with a special mentors lunch where they will sit down with a group of mentors to discuss and plan their year. This will include their goals, areas of development and strengths so that the right balance of experience and teaching can be mapped out to lift their career to new heights and take it in new directions.
